Have you subscribed to a product/service for the free trial period?
Wait… I’m not finished yet.
Have you ended up paying for the product/service to continue using it afterward?
*Insert Furious Netflix 30-day trial flashbacks *
Chances are unless you can telepathically command people to do your bidding you’ll probably lose the majority of your customers at the end of the trial period.
Converting a user after the trial period is teeth-jarringly hard. If they really needed the product they would have bought it any which way. But what if they are unsure whether to buy the tool or not?
Simple Solution: Use the trial period to your advantage and hook the users with an irresistible offer that ends right before the end of the trial.
Sweet. But has anyone done it successfully yet?
Surfer a SaaS for content creators and SEOs were able to boost their trial conversions by 33% with an irresistible offer in the middle of the trial period.
They have a 7-day trial and after analyzing they noticed most of their conversions happened on the 7th and 8th day and then saw conversions decrease significantly. It actually makes sense because people forget about tools/products once they stop using them and the urge to repurchase the product is way lower.
Folks at Surfer wanted to make the most of the 7th and 8th day so they decided to encourage users to sign up for their paid plans by offering users more value (like additional queries) within 48 hours.
F.Y.I: The process was automated. Every user on the 6th day of the trial period automatically received a mail for the offer with a link to upgrade.
The users just needed to sign up and reply to this email and the user would get credits added to their account. By doing this alone, Surfer could increase the conversion rate by 33% (from trial to paid subscriptions).
Those are some pretty crackin’ numbers if you ask me.
Do you offer a trial period in your business? Which company made you switch from a trial user to a paid user?
